Curricula & Learning
As a professional child care provider, I understand that children
learn primarily through play. Because of this, I do not underestimate its
importance on a developing young child.
Preschool Curriculum
A structured preschool curriculum including thematic units is offered
to all children. Thematic units include a variety of enrichment
activities such as: songs, stories, games, imaginative play,
cooking, experiments, stories, finger-plays, and more! Each week's
lesson plan is unique in hopes to keep children engaged in their
learning and development. Activities provided are geared
towards the full development of young children.
In addition, a phonemic awareness currciulum (Heggerty) is used in
order to increase student's literacy skills. Each level of the Heggerty curriculum provides 35 weeks of daily lessons, focusing on eight phonemic awareness skills, along with two additional activities to develop letter and sound recognition, and language awareness.
Because language and literacy is important for developing young children, books are a huge part of our learning curriculum.
Other learning tools used: Leapfrog, ABC Mouse, Alphatales, and Numbertales.
Portfolios
Portfolios are used in order to help keep track of each child's learning (assessment). Anecdotal notes, photographs, art, stories, and other sample's of the child's work are some of the items that can/will be included.
Our Day
Our daily schedule simply gives you an idea how our day runs each day. The schedule may change depending upon the children and their needs.

8:30-11:00 - PRESCHOOL
11:00-12:00 - Recess/ Gross Motor
12:00- Lunch
12:30 - Nap Time
3:00 - Snack
3:30-4:00 - Afternoon Activities/ Small Group
4:00-:500 - Recess/ Outdoor
5:30 - Preschool Closed
What is J.A.M.? Jesus and Me, a Christian curricula that has been added to our current hands-on preschool units of study. Children enjoy reading through a variety of different parables in The Beginner’s Bible: Timeless Children Stories.
The Beginner’s Bible is one of the most beloved storybooks of our time, and the perfect foundation for little ones to begin their journey of faith. Families, children’s ministries, and homeschoolers have trusted The Beginner’s Bible for over 25 years to make the Bible full of life and fun! With bright bold colors, and simply-written text, children will see themselves in the characters, and understand God’s great love for them and His people.
In addition to reading through parables, children engage in plays, arts and crafts, songs and dance and so much more! Provided activities correlate with the current parable. The goal is to make each story come “alive,” so that children are able to recall/retell them.
When? J.A.M. takes place every Wednesday!

Jonte Johnson is the owner/ lead educator of Discovering Minds Early Learning Academy. With a degree in Nursing, a great amount of knowledge, countless hours of training and several years of experience, Jonte specializes in planning, creating lessons/lesson plans and implementing curriculum in a fun, unique way for Preschoolers and PreKindergartners.

Discovering Minds Early Learning academy is looking to add a Infant/ Toddler Care program, to our learn-through-play preschool within the community.
Ages : 6 Weeks- 2 years
Hours of operation: Monday through Friday 7:30am-5:30pm.

Tuition: $350/ Week
